Everyone, companies and people, want to help us get out of this drama that has caused the Covid-19. The giant LVMH has also responded to the call for help and has done so in style. Because the conglomerate of luxury fashion, beauty and lifestyle has turned the beauty factories of Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain into producers of gel free disinfectant.

The disappearance of the disinfectant hand gel that we have already experienced in Spain is on its way to happening in France. The hydroalcoholic liquid is beginning to be a scarce commodity in the neighbouring country, but LVMH has already set to work so that it can be distributed free of charge to public health authorities. To this end, they have put their own cosmetic and perfume production factories to work, ensuring that they will have the first shipment ready today.

In this same statement, they estimate that in the first week of quarantine there will be produced about 12 tons of hydroalcoholic gel. “It will be distributed free of charge to the French health authorities, with priority given to the Paris Hospital for public assistance. With this initiative, LVMH aims to enable a large number of people to continue working with the right protection to prevent the virus from spreading.

The situation of the Coronavirus no longer understands borders or countries. The whole world is in crisis and the fashion industry is no exception. Among the cancellations, store closures and the drop in sales, the firms suffer one of the worst situations. But this has not deterred them from joining this struggle. Prada, Gucci, Versace, Fendi and many others luxury brands donate money and equipment in these strange days that we live.

Without a vaccine to stop the virus and with infections increasing in some countries of the world (such as Spain or Italy) the brands have wanted to do their bit to help. And they have done so in the form of financial donations to hospitals and health centres that require right now all the effort and care possible.

The Italian firm Prada has donated six intensive care and resuscitation units to three hospitals in Milan. Meanwhile, Donatella Versace and her daughter Allegra have made a personal donation of 200,000 euros to the intensive care department of San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. And they are not the only ones.

Bulgari has contributed financially to the Istituto Lazzaro Spallanzani in Rome which is working to put a stop to Covid-19. Giorgio Armani has donated 1.25 million to several Italian health centres. Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri has supported with 100,000 euros the hospitals of the Emilia-Romagna area, one of the most affected.

The Carla Fendi Foundation also gave this same amount to the Roman Presidio Sanitario Columbus Hospital. And Cartier beat them all to it, leaving 1.4 million in the accounts of the Wuhan Red Cross when all this started. In addition, LVMH sold its factories to produce sanitary gel in France.
